In BMW N55 and S55 engines, the centre bolt of the crankshaft can loosen over time. This causes the timing to become misaligned, which can result in serious engine damage. In the BMW S55 engine, the camshafts are connected to the crankshaft via a chain. The chain in turn is connected to a sprocket that is bolted to the crankshaft. In series production, this sprocket is not friction-locked to the crankshaft, which exposes tuned engines to a considerable risk of failure. The MMX BMW Crank Hub offers an enormous improvement in terms of engine safety. Available as a "one-piece billet crank hub" without pins or as a 4-pin upgrade for maximum reinforcement.
